Parts Manager

I am the Parts Manager of the Peterborough branch of Sycamore Motorcycles which incorporates both BMW Motorrad and Royal Enfield. My day involves stocking all the latest BMW products ready for our keen customers to come and buy, but I also keep the workshop stocked with our service items ready for those important bookings. Clothing, accessories and merchandise all fall under my responsibility and I make sure we have the best on offer at all times.

One of the best things about working for Sycamore Motorcycles is that both staff and customers are there because they love motorbikes and are enthusiastic about the product, making customer interaction enjoyable and easy. Customers often come into the showroom for a social catch-up. They join us for ride-outs and come to multiple events that we host and attend. This all makes for a fun and enjoyable career with customers who become friends. As well as the in-store business, I also run a successful and busy online store, which allows us to sell to and interact with customers across the globe.

I enjoy helping to develop the business and myself along with it. When asked where I saw myself in 5 years, I envision myself in a General Manager role developing a busy and successful motorcycle dealership.

Every day for me is just giving a great experience to everyone who comes into the dealership, making people feel welcome when they come in whether they are one of our regulars we see every week, or a nervous first timer who has never set foot in a dealership before. Discussing the customers’ needs with them to find the right bike for them, arranging test rides and helping customise new bikes so suit their desires. Negotiating deals with customers, appraising the part exchanges, and offering finance and insurance options to them based on their needs. As well as that there are the behind-the-scenes tasks, everything from managing enquiries from different sources, prospecting the database, photographing bikes for the website, updating Bike Trader, arranging the bikes in the showroom, and ensuring the bikes are prepped to the best standard possible when they come in. Even filling the coffee machine! The day-to-day can vary so much, with a small team we are all responsible for the customers experience and everyone roles up the sleeves to take care of the business.

What I love -

One of the great things about working for Sycamore with Harley Davidson is the variety. There is always something to do and people to talk to. As a people person, I love the opportunity to talk to lots of different people from not just the UK, but foreign visitors in to get some souvenirs from the merchandise department and what better to talk about than everyone’s favourite subject…Harley! I enjoy the challenge of building relationships and trust with lots of different people, and I still get a buzz seeing the smile on a biker’s face when they ride off on their new bike! We have a great team here who make coming to work fun and offer great support when needed.

In 5 years time I hope to have achieved my boyhood dream of becoming Batman, hehe. In all seriousness, over the next 5 years I’m looking forward to taking on more responsibility in the business and helping drive it forwards from a management position. I’m excited to grow with Sycamore and encourage others in the team to make both the business, and themselves thrive.
